“Sanction” Screenplay 2017 - 2019
“Open on THE MAN. As he is a criminal, he has been stripped of his name.”
Through late 2017 into mid-2019, I endeavored to write a feature length, narrative screenplay to satisfy the requirements of my undergraduate thesis project at Portland State University. Published in PDX Scholar as “Untitled Screenplay”, “Sanction” is a science-fiction story following the reintegration of “The Man” into just society, after serving time as a convicted criminal. For more information on the scholarly point of view within which this screenplay was framed, please see the “Thesis Prospectus” page, located under the “Writing” tab.
In the excerpt below, you will notice that I took more creative liberty than I otherwise would, using alternative font styles, and lengthier scene descriptions. While I know both of these practices are somewhat discouraged in the screenwriting discipline, I chose to do so as befit the nature of completing a creative undergraduate thesis, and under the advisement of my departmental thesis advisor.
Below are the first ten pages of “Sanction.” Happy reading!
